Pocket knife

I dug this up a few days ago by an older home. I'm not much of a pocket knife aficionado and my research hasn't turned up much in age or make. It was down around 7 or 8 inches and came out of the ground BLACK. I didn't think much of it and threw it in my finds bag. When i got home I gave it a quick once over under the sink and was surprised by the colors that started to appear behind the dirt. It appears to be of some sort of oyster or pearl. (my luck, synthetic). The pictures don't really do it justice. Any info on the age, make, and material used to make handle would be appreciated. Thanks, JJ

As I mentioned in another post about the 'silver' penny, This garage was behind the house was
full of 'stuff'. The guy never threw anything away. I found a whole mess of pocket knives in a
small burlap bag , including an old 'Klan' pocket-knife with I believe ivory side covers with inscriptions.
A couple of the knives looked almost exactly like the one you posted, I remember I was sort of
amazed by the colors on these old knives. I need to find them & let you know what they may be.

well to me it looks like it had the swiss mark on it at one time .i say that from the shild resemblence so i would say a swiss knife

After a little more checking around, I am fairly certain it is a vintage Imperial pocket knife. (USA/Ireland?) I'm still unsure of the age and materials used but will research some more. Thanks for all replies, JJ

i agree. i remember seeing them in cardboard display cases on store and bar counters when i was a kid.

very cheep, disposable knives. in the early 70's they sold for about $2.50

Looks very much like a Harktopf pocket knife... the shield logo is almost identical. Having said that, the rust suggests it could well be a cheap copy of one. Good stainless steel wouldn't corrode like that.

Couldn't put a date on it though, sorry.
