Police: Woman Tortured In Oxford Circle Home Invasion « CBS Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police are searching for two suspects wanted in connection with a violent home invasion Friday night in the city’s Oxford Circle section.

The incident was reported at the 1500 block of Rosalie Street.

Police tell Eyewitness News a 28-year-old woman was tortured in front of her two-year-old daughter and her four-year-old nephew.

Police say a pair of men broke into the back door of this home on Rosalie Street, attacking the people inside including the 28-year-old woman, her two-year-old daughter and four-year-old nephew, her 54-year-old mother and an electrician working at the house.

“These two individuals tied up all the three adults. They tied up their wrists and their ankles,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Beating up the electrician in the process, police say the pair started demanding money, something the 28-year-old said she didn’t have. That’s when one of the attackers allegedly picked up a kitchen knife, turned on the stove, and put the blade in the flame.

“And then four separate times burnt the 28-year-old female, burnt her face, both of her arms and her stomach,” Small said.

Still she refused to speak, so the crime went further.

“Then picked up the 28-year-old’s two-year-old daughter and threatened to kill the daughter if she didn’t say where the money was,” Small said.

Finally she caved, and gave up some money she had. So did her mother and the electrician. The pair got away with nearly $4,000. Glenn Sanders is related to all the victims, an ex-husband, father and grandfather.

“Her mother called me crying and said she’s tied up and you know, you gotta be in this position, I’ve never been in this situation,” Sanders said.

He’s livid though, and hopes police catch those responsible. Neither he nor the police know why the crooks would target this house.

Police are sill looking for the two men. They have limited descriptions of the suspects but are hoping fingerprint evidence recovered inside the home with help identify them.

When caught they should be tried then sentenced to life with out parole in the most harden penitentiary possible with a sign on them saying "Fresh Meat".

We will NOT go quitely into the night!

I know that area of Philly well. It used to be a fairly good neighborhood, but even back in the day I carried a sawed off shotgun or a handgun in my car when working the streets in most neighborhoods in Philly, and that was about 40 years ago. I was just up in Philly a month or so ago for a 50th HS reunion and it has only deteorated badly from what I remembered. I hope they catch these two and they resist and they have an excuse to just do both of them and save everybody time, expense, and tax money. Low life vermen ...PERIOD!

Locked doors and a loaded 12 gauge at all times in the home will stop most of these events. Do the math, guys. Society is getting worse, not better. I had to go to downtown Baltimore today, and I did not enjoy the trip. Philly, hell will freeze before I go there. Chicago and Detroit are also on my do not go to lists. Let's add Washington DC to the list also.

A many year association with Detroit....

Before the economy collapsed in '09 and I lost my job, I worked at a refinery on the Southside of Detroit. Always a very early morning person, I was at work at 5:00 in the morning, every morning, and many times earlier.

Driving down the streets of Detroit at 0400 hrs, the sidewalks were full. They milled around like the zombie movies we see.

Within one single year, there were 6 shot dead within a block of where I worked. Went to go in the plant one morning with a co-worker at 0700 hrs, and two bodies laying in the street in front of the plant's front gate.

One of the 6 killed was a co-worker, multiple gunshots, sitting in his car, dead....

Maybe it was a blessing the economy collapsed and I lost my job there. But, money talks in this world - but NO combat zone pay....

The stories you hear about Detroit ??? Well, go on up there if you don't believe them. Do a Google street view going South on Woodward Ave from Ferndale. You'll see the hoods & hookers anytime you do it!

I have a friend who lives in a burb of Chicago. Said it was nice 10 years ago but now it's going right down the toilet. Unfortunately, it will only take 1 big snowstorm or 1 large power outage for all hell to break loose in this country. I don't think I can fit under my bed anymore.

Yep, it's getting worse everywhere and they want to take our only means of self defense. Never!
