Hey all,
I am trying a new photo hosting site so let's see if it works.
Here are some pics of a very polished stone vaguely shaped like an ax head. There are impact fractures on the leading edge that indicate use. Also some strange circles in the stone itself. These may be from some feature that wasn't obvious until the stone was polished. My question is...Why would one go to all the trouble of polishing up a stone only to bash it into pieces with every day use?
Any one have a clue to what type rock this is?
Other rocks associated with this find are heavily polished, but show no impact fractures to indicate use as a striking tool. Would they be cooking stones?
Thanks for your input,
BW
