a clip it is..note the missing rim. reverse may have a mild deformity opposite the clip-- called Blakesley effect-- uneven force opposite the clip during the upset mill process of forming the rim. Cuds can also show similar deformity during the strike due to less pressure where the planchet metal is missing on the opposite side of the coin. this will be at the Cud location instead of 180 degrees opposite--- kind of like a Blakesley effect, ....but different:tongue3:

It looks like that clipped penny, might have been on one of the edges of the sheet, as the clip does not look circular at all?

yup, edge clip. go to error-ref.com-- then study the hundreds of things that can get screwed up just to make a coin:BangHead::laughing9:
