Found in the same area where I've found 5 other 100+ year old coins. I think this is a 1 grano Felipe III 1636-1642.

Update to the id of this after a little more cleaning. 1. Grano Filippo IV 1638-1648. The 4 to the left of the shield was revealed after cleaning. Still the same king. The screen shot is one on eBay.

It wasn't as unusual as finding a 1928 British penny, more than likely dropped by a soldier during WW2. I found several .303 bullet casings in this area and then about 500m away, several German WW2 bullet casings. Makes me wonder if they were shooting at each other.

Sicily has an amazing history with multiple cultures controlling it for thousands of yrs. Believe it or not the Vikings controlled it around 800. You are in a wonderful location and have the potential to find very old artifacts.

It could have very well been a drop from a military personal-15 yrs after the mint date.
Another scenario is that a tourist dropped the coin while visiting the area in the late 20's.

Hang on old thread.
We blame it on being upside down.
That's my excuse anyway 😆
