Possible civil war item

IMG_0297.webp found this at a civil war site. Dunno what it is. Maybe something to do with a sword hanger..... a suspender?....or fell off my 4-wheeler. Inquiring minds want to know

It's part of a Union regular issue belt buckle. It would sit in the brass and the lead was cast over it to finish the buckle.. Pull up a pic on the net somewhere. The two round attachments and the hook would face in the same direction, and it would lie flat.
 

Now go find the rest of the plate. I bet it is there somewhere. Cool find.
 

Yeah, probably has two letters on it - U and S.
