Possible explosive minie ball - looking for cannonballguy!

I was referred here and am looking for cannonballguy. I dug a possible explosive minie ball in Virginia. Solid base. Not an explosive gardner/gardinier? Copper casing inside. In one picture I removed the casing. Perhaps it’s modern? Thanks in advance!

But do you think it was an exploding bullet? The cavity looks intentional?

I feel exploding ammunition is newer phenomenon and your bullet appears older due to the oxidation on it...as for the cavity , possible damage at the time of impact

Looks like a fired .58 hollow point bullet with a copper expander placed inside the point. I've never seen one before. Likely others have.

Check this link out. Look at the bottom of page two, top of page three. But, without proper measurements of your bullet's diameter we are just guessing.
