There's a little information on the Whitworth Rifles and Bullets but it looks like I'll need to buy a book to get more info. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, I found this bullet in a field on the edge of the Battle of Cedar Creek. It is part of 2 properties totaling 100 acres that have produced around 40 fired bullets of all types as well as some artillery. According to the maps and order of battle, Wharton and Wofford's brigades both had Sharpshooter regiments and were within range of this property.

The only issue I have is trying to find a reference to a flat-based Whitworth Civil War era bullet.

Interesting find there. The only Whitworths I've seen all had a sort of spiral twist to them. But you've got a strange bullet there. Have you checked out Mason's bullet books?

looks like a tower enfield to me ,,,but i'm no expert.

I hope it is a Whitworth.
Nice find.

I believe it is a fired Whitworth due to the hexagonal shape to it. It looks almost identical to the fired Whitworth that I dug. Congrats :icon_thumleft:
