Hi all,
I posted this on another forum and only got one reply so I was hoping maybe someone here has seen one before and can tell me more about it..

Anyway, I purchased this thing at a fleamarket last week from a guy who had tons of indian arrowheads, pipes, pottery etc. I asked him where he got it and he just said "I found it" and wouldnt give any further details.

It seems to be made out of clay or pottery. My knowledge of indian artifacts is very limited, so for all I know it could be something made recently which just appears to be old. But for $14 I figured it was worth taking a chance on.

I first thought "fertitity godess"

But , I think I see the hands covering the breasts ?

So ....maybe a " birth control godess " ?

It is very cool , well worth $14 ! I hope it's old !

the picture on the right is a can of Coca Cola circa 20th century :laughing9:

the picture on the left is what you look like if you drink to much of it :laughing9:

No Idea, but still very nice,

14 bucks? A fake would be worth that.

It kinda looks mayan incan thingish. I dont know anyting about sth american art, but Id reckon thats where it is from.

You gotta look closely. If it is a fake, it will be a cast. There will be a tell tale sign somewhere.

What does it look like it is made of? How heavy is it, does it float? How balanced is it, where is the centre of gravity?

Welcome to Tnet NWGA - Relic Hunter :hello2:

Could be an indian artifact or design replica from same (I think it kind of has an Incan look to it).

Could be a reproduction, they have been making them a long time for the tourists. Could be real. You need to have it examined by some one that can look at it. Photos don't work in these cases. It can take some knowledge to see the mineral changes of the material to see if it does show such signs of age.

Thanks for the welcome and replies guys.

Mickk,
It appears to be made of clay or pottery. Probably weighs as much as a full can of soda, or maybe a little more. I haven't tried it, but I doubt it would float.

I was told on the other forum that it appears to be a mayan idol, and that it was probably something made recently and sold to tourist like stefen said. If I ever run accross someone who can date these things I'll let them take a look at it.

Thanks again for the help and the welcomes.

When I lived in Texas,25 years ago, there were tons of "artifacts" made in mexico at all the flea markets. It is more than likely a replica, especially at that price, but I have bought several over the years , and think they are cool looking. The technology for these things hasn't changed in the last 1000 years or so.Even the originals could have had a seam line , as many were made in stone molds, and were evidently "mass produced" as offerings?votive objects? :dontknow: Still neat, though I wouldn't count on authenticity for 14 bucks ! :tongue3:
