Light swirl marks in the hole....a secondary hole is not as deep and right beside it.....very hard stone....thoughts. Found in an area with heavy Native American traffic here in Maine

I see smAll scratches and swirl marKs in the hole.....how can you tell.....what is the litmus test so to speak
 

There would be a difference in the patina between the depression and the rest of the rock. I don't see any pecking marks in the depression. Rocks with holes and depressions are pretty common. Gary

Please, as we see lots of things like this brought here, do yourself a favor and google up omarolluk and see for yourself.

The depression would likely show more polish than swirls if had been used.
