Hi all. I'm new to the board. I've been reading it a while and just recently joined. I found something recently I think may be a scraper of some sort. I believe it to be red jasper. I found it in South Carolina but I've never found red jasper on this site. Most of the points I find are quartz.

Any help in identifying this is much appreciated. I'm fairly new to the hobby and love learning from others and looking at those wonderful finds!

Just from what I can tell from the photo, it looks to be chert that has been heated by fire. Nice find you are close to a camp site maybe. Welcome to Tnet.:hello:

Thanks monsterrack. I think you are right about it being a campsite. I have found many broken points, a few intact points, pottery chards and a few other odd pieces. Do you think it is a scraper?

I don't see a worked edge that most scrapers have, most scraper will have a edge that was made for the work ahead. It could be a spoke shave:icon_scratch:

Nice! Looks like a scraper with a very nice graver or burin on one end.

Thanks Quito. I'm anxious to hunt this site again soon. The color is what caught my eye.
