I need help identifying a find that I think is a copper (brass) top to something. It reads between 79-81 on my AT Pro. It only measures about 1 3/4" across. I'm really curious about what it is. It was found in the same area that I found my first one piece flat button that I think dates from between 1810- 1830's, from what I've read on this site. I hope I attached the pictures right. Thanks for any help!

That's part of a kerosene or oil lamp. It attached to the bowl and was hinged to allow one to fill it with fuel. The wick would come up through the slot and the tabs around the edge held the globe in place.

Thank you, fyrffytr1. I'm newer to metal detecting and don't have a clue about what I'm looking at sometimes. I appreciate it!

Yep! I was going to say it looks like a burner for an old lamp!
Welcome to TNet! Cool find!

Congrats on the find, you will dig plenty up in you pursuit of the hobby, especially if you primarily hunt older private permissions. Heck I even pulled one from left field in a now idle baseball diamond.
