Possibly the rarest piece in my collection Hopewell Doll

I was able to pick this piece up a few weeks ago from the finder. It was found about 25-30 years ago along the Wabash River N. of Vinceness Indiana. The legs of the piece were broken off anciently have polish over them, one of only two sitting figures that I'm aware the other is in the museum at SIU-Carbondale. Needless to say, I was absolutely ecstatic when I was able to get it. The piece has some great detail, especially the face. I figured that somebody would want to see it. Mooch

It is very simiar to that piece. That site has produced 3 of the dolls that I know of, amazing site.

Nice!!! There was a cache of 9 found in Illinois the eyes and nose look exactly like yours,They are pictured in Converses "The archaeology of Ohio" page 242.

[Miami-valley-artifacts]

The Turner Mound Group near Cincinnati Ohio had several within it. I believe around 17 in total from the site. It was excavated in the late 1800's and very early 1900's by archeologist from Harvard's Peabody Museum. that is really the only place I had seen anything like what you have there.
