I agree. They used their fingers to make some of the designs. I think they used sticks too, as well as cords. I love finding artifacts that shows finger imprints. Makes the artifacts come to life.

Nice to see you back, Steve, in the arizona regions, there is a group of pottery that is made like that ....using fingernails, I think its Hohokam, if not someone will correct me. I have a few shards like that....goat
 

Steve, those are some great pottery sherds, I really like the ones where they used the end of their finger or the fingernail making the design. It sort of gives you a strange feeling to hold a piece that has a finger impression made so long ago.

also look at the diff sizes of the finger imprints maybe some were done by a young child while others could have been
done by a man or someone with large fingers or maybe done with a thumb

I agree Steve about the different sizes of fingerprints. My theory on the smaller fingerprints, is they were teaching the childern how to make different designs or maybe they were just trying to keep the younger children busy. Either way the sherds with the finger prints are very interesting and very unique.
