The girlfriend was out getting her haircut yesterday and I tagged along. It was a beautiful day. I had my coffee in hand and a lovely view from a newly gravelled parking area next to the building.
As I got closer to the edge, I noticed that some of the dirt that was scraped off for the parking area had bits of pottery in it. There's wasn't much dirt left, but what was there was full. I also saw broken glass and an abundance of clamshells. Dozens upon dozens of shells. What in the hell are clamshells doing up here? I can see the sea, but I am no where near it.
One of the broken pottery pieces was a mustard jar, boasting about its victory in some mustard contest in the 1850's. There was black glass, blue glass, red glass... medicine bottles. All broken, of course.
I saw a little head sticking out, and I pulled out this porcelain? bulldog.
I looked at the old maps and a small church stood there in the mid 1800's.
Would this have been a dump for the church or a picnic area where they'd gather and go clam crazy after mass?
It's a shame that I didn't get there when they first stripped it. I still don't have permission, but I am going to ask the owner sometime this week to let me run my coil over the stuff on the edge. If he/she says no, I'll still take some pics for you guys. The variety was pretty cool.
Happy hunting!
