I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving this year! We all did at the Big Cadillac household and after stuffing myself and getting restless due to rain and cold temps, I jumped at the chance to hit a sale that was filled with multi generational treasures.

There was some great stuff and lots of odds/ends in the garage. I ended up grabbing lots of those because much was disguised silver among the plated stuff.

One of the items I grabbed were these candlesticks. I kinda wanted them for myself and knew they would look pretty good all cleaned up. As you can see, I was right and also discovered a Bailey Banks and Biddle mark. What I can’t figure out is the OCSN stamp above it.

I was also able to pull out this little trinket box which I plan to re-line with wood and use as my cufflinks storage box. That box is personalized to a Lt. Col who was the Deputy Direct of Air Force HQ in 1955. A goodie search pulled up a reference to a retirement list but not much else.

Can anybody decipher the markings, especially the silver box? I’m curious to know more about its origin.

Nice finds, but both look plated according to the markings.

Nice finds, but both look plated according to the markings.

I know they are plated, I’m just curious about the other markings. The sterling hasn’t been photographed yet but the candlesticks do have a small sterling medallion on the front containing the USN & anchor mark

Very cool. I’d love to know the occasion

Great score wish I could help more than a Bump I like stuff like that would be cool to get an ID

The box is electroplated nickel silver by Hans Jensen. The candle sticks were retailed by BBB and I think the maker is Gorham. Not sure what the OCSN means.

I found a reference to OCSN meaning Officer Candidate Seaman E3 (US Navy Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program):

Perhaps some sort of graduation/promotion gift?

That would seem to be what it means so I guess that mystery is solved. Now I just need to work on the presentation box. There are scuffs to buff out, dents to pull and new wood for the inside. I’m look forward to rebuilding it

Very nice silver box; a cool personal item. :occasion14:
