This is work of an artist from approx. 1700? What gave you that idea? Take it to an art gallery that deals in 17th and 18th century art....................h

Sorry to say that is not a Van der Meer. I have seen his work at the Rijksmusem in Amsterdam, sadly your painting isn't one. From the subject and your location I would think it is likely native to your area.

Given the subject, rushed quality of it, and fact that its on board - maybe Florida Highway men

Very similar to a Highwaymen painting, but the signature is not from a highwaymen or the material used or the frame. I've never seen that sig before. Keep your eyes out for those Highwaymen, they're like money in the bank. :-)

Yep. Probably first half of 20th century. Nocturne painting of an idealized view of the local area. You know the type: some local 'artist' cranks them out & sold in the local general store for tourists.

I’ve never seen a local area that looks like the painting lived here for 37 years

I still say compare it to the florida guys. Looks like that style. I’m in NYC but I also have homes in Mexico and Spain and regularly take things back and forth. There is a fantastic collection of Pennsylvania chert points adorning my living room in Valencia. If we were to have a garage sale there, would those be presumed to be from Spain lol?
