Found by my 12 year old son last night at an old house site on our property. Clearly someone was the president of a club however I do not recognize the insignia. Anyone seen this before? 20190131_125928.webp20190131_125845.webp

That's cool! Any history on the previous owners of the old house site?

No idea here but it's a nice find.

tell him it is an awesome relic of our past, well done too, you have both parts

I see the letters F, C, and L. Not sure the correct order to help in looking it up. ???

Nice find. What are the letters? I see FCL or FC and an anchor.

I think you are right on the letters...

I found a First Colony Life insurance co. in Virginia, but it was started in the '50's...
Also FCL brings up the Grand Army of the Republic when you enter 'pin' or 'badge'...???
Cosest I've found so far...lol:

Do you happen to be in Frederick County? Could be something to do with it.

Very cool,, and both pieces.
Now the research begins.
That old house site is holding more surprises.
Congrats to your son

Great research, your definitely on to something.

congrats on the find, pretty cool having the two pieces

It appears to be a Women's Relief Corps badge similar to this one I found after doing a search. civil-war-womens-relief-corps-medal_1_cc1f3d0290ae8b4a4da482888b85eebe.webp
Cool piece of civil war history!

Part of this Woman's Relief Corps medal. I recommend searching some more where those two parts were found, the other part is likely still buried somewhere. The 1883 date is not when the medal was made, but rather when the organisation was first formed. My guess is yous is from the late 1800's or early 1900's.
