I recently learned that the place that one of my friend’s lives in was originally a school house from the late 1800’s. The small school was converted to a home in the 1950’s. My friend has lived there since the 80’s and doesn’t recall anyone detecting there since he moved in. Yesterday I went out for 2 hours after work and today another 4 hours in the afternoon. So far I’ve only covered the front yard and I haven’t yet found anything from the 1800’s but I’ve done pretty well.
The most surprising find was this set of 11 quarters, all in the same hole. The set consists of 2 – 1960, 2 – 1963, 2 – 1964 and 5 – 1965’s.
Other silver coins found are these;
And of course, the normal clad and 10 wheat backs.
Most of the time I was accompanied by my friends two teenage kids. The girl was with me when I found the 11 quarters. I agreed to give her the 5 – 1965’s after I clean them up and photograph them.
All the good coins were near the road and I had less finds as I got closer to the house. I’m hoping to make some more finds in the back. The foundation from the old out house is visible.
