I recently learned that the place that one of my friend’s lives in was originally a school house from the late 1800’s. The small school was converted to a home in the 1950’s. My friend has lived there since the 80’s and doesn’t recall anyone detecting there since he moved in. Yesterday I went out for 2 hours after work and today another 4 hours in the afternoon. So far I’ve only covered the front yard and I haven’t yet found anything from the 1800’s but I’ve done pretty well.

The most surprising find was this set of 11 quarters, all in the same hole. The set consists of 2 – 1960, 2 – 1963, 2 – 1964 and 5 – 1965’s.

Other silver coins found are these;

And of course, the normal clad and 10 wheat backs.

Most of the time I was accompanied by my friends two teenage kids. The girl was with me when I found the 11 quarters. I agreed to give her the 5 – 1965’s after I clean them up and photograph them.

All the good coins were near the road and I had less finds as I got closer to the house. I’m hoping to make some more finds in the back. The foundation from the old out house is visible.

it's odd to find a pocket spill containing both clad and silver like that. I would guess that those 65 quarters are in near uncirculated condition. Is that the case?

great digs!!

Wow. A years take of silver in two hunts. I think the pointed thing near the penny pile may be a flag toper or the tip of a teachers pointer. chris.

That is one awesome haul. I am still yet to find my first silver quarter. But you sure cleaned house on quarter, mercs and more. Great finds.

You must have perfect soil for coin preservation. That silver is in BEAUTIFUL SHAPE!
In reading your post I remember that an od friend of mine lived in a schoolhouse that was made into a home....The original was certainly from the late 1800's.....I know where I will be asking permission to hunt soon!
Great digs!

The 6 silver coins were real pretty there in the dirt. It is hard to believe that the 5 - 1965's (only a year or two older) looked so bad, very tarnished. I tumbled the 65's to clean them up so I can give them to the girl that was with me.

Looks like you really found a great place to hunt. Good luck with the rest of the house.

They are not silver and therefor they will corrode like all other modern coins...

Give her at least one silver...
