Was talking to a mate who owns his own steel fab business.
He says he's only getting $38 per ton for his scrap steel.
Pretty crappy price compared to six months ago, hows that compare with what your getting?
Cheers.
Lou.
By the kilo is always best. Some truck batteries are 50kg monsters but I lug them ok.Lou from downunder said:Tarzan eh? Way cooler than Pigiron...lol
Thanks for the info.
Yeah, those prices are'nt to bad considering.
Batteries are my main go, I pick up a few here and there in my job, have sold a few hundred in the last couple of years. Normally sell them X amount per battery, currently I can get $2, but if Sims is buying by the kilo..... I just went and weighed a couple, the small ones were 10 kgs, the bigger ones over 20 kgs.... at 20cents per kg Sims sounds like the way to go.
I've got between 50-60 at the moment but I'm of the belief that prices will continue to improve so will hang onto them for the moment.
Cheers.
Lou.
Well there you go Lou and I'm glad to be of some help.Lou from downunder said:G'day Tarzan,
mate, I'm in Langwarrin, thats between Frankston and Cranbourne.
Just out of curiosity I rang Sims {the old Menzies Metals yard in Seaford} and spoke to a guy called Tony.
He quoted me $280 per ton so obviously thats 28c per kg. Told me that the price is reviewed every fortnight. Seems to be heading the right way at the moment.
What part of Melb do you hail from?
Lou.
Hi Lou, I've checked with Sims in Seaford and their "normal" price this and last week is 24c and $140.Lou from downunder said:Hey Tarzan,
Sims in Seaford are now buying batteries for 32 cents per kg.
Scrap steel, better quality stuff, $160 per ton.
Lou.
