Can anyone tell me if this 3 inch long by 1 3/4 inch point is contemporary or primitive? my brother-in-law found it in a yard while cleaning it up, it has glue on one side, so musta been displayed at one point in time. one side is beveled, reminds me of one's I saw in Kentucky for sale. It doesnt show new chippings or breaks, has white in the stone showing thru-out the point. And if primitive, what kind is it please, no idea of it's actual origin what-so-ever.
Thanks!

Morning,

Reproduction.....nearly 100% certain. I have bought similar from many sources. Some are made of a greenish color stone. Here is a pic of a couple of them...come in many colors. Use for crafts and such.

yep reproduction, they are made in india out of their local agates

100% contemporary.

You stated that the point was found in a yard, and if it were there for any length of time it would have lost the hinge fractures that are present in the pic. Freezing and thawing of artifacts cause them to loosen and pop the little hinges you see in the pic. The only exception being a piece that was below the freeze line. I've been on an archaeological dig where a point pulled from a burial looks almost as new as the day it was made. Since it was below the freeze line it didn't have the chance to pop the hinges.

It's bothersome that so many contemporary points are around. Well spotted guys.
Still good to make a necklace out of.

Molly. :)

Yeah, I vote repro as well, Everybody else beat me to the pun though. One little thought is about the stem and notches as opposed to the size of the point. It just wouldn't work realisticly you see. Thats one sign of a repro/fake.

The fresh flaking screamed at me...

ballpein hammer brigade ;D I gotta remember that, I LIKE!

THANKS A WHOLE LOT TOO EVERYONE'S RESPONSE'S!! Settled!! contemporary!!! THANX AGAIN!
