Detector(s) used
Garrett Ace 250; Minelab Explorer II
Just had a talk with Nahabit about his new Prizm III detector and he asked me to formulate this topic because I know few words in English. It looks like he has a great problem with it - during the last hunt detector behaved crazy - after 5 seconds of normal work in "all metal" mode it turned to chaotic and random signals all the time, even when lying without moving!

What it can be? Is problem in electronic or probably there are some secret setup options (like calibration to the soil etc.) which should be applied?

Could have been interference from another close by detector(frequency cross-talking) or maybe if he was close to some power lines?Did he turn it off and reset?Does it still do it after he got home?Did he try it in another area without anyone else with a detector turned on?Did he change batteries?

Was not interference. No power lines in that area. Other detectors worked without problems

Yes

Do not know yet, but I think he tried it

Yes

P.S. My first detector was some cheep chinese model, and after about 3-4 months it started to behave the same way when was set to maximum sensitivity. Seller's technical support told me that it is a defect in electronic.

Maximum Sensitivity will do this sometimes.

So will a Loose Connection

Or Moisture Between Connections.

Disconnect the Coil from the Control Box.

Let sit in warm (Not HOT) dry place for an Hour or more.

Put Unit Back together and see what happens.

Also If it has Coil Cover, Remove & Clean it.

And Make sure Coil Wire is Snugly Wrapped around the Shaft,
so it Dosn't Move while Swinging.

Did he Drop it ? Did he Strike anything with the Coil while Swinging ?
Was it Left in a Hot Vehicle for a long period of Time ?

Weekend started here, so I will be able to contact him on Monday only, to get answers. So the more possible reasons the better.

It looks like this problem is not because of wrong setup?

I had a problem with my Prizm IV like that. It just went crazy.....kept indicating 50 cent pieces...everywhere.

My dealer fixed it for me...it was a loose connection in the battery compartment that needed soldered.

Another time it happened, and it was just water between the coil and the cover.

Sometimes also, if you've used the detector near the ocean, the salt residue will get inside the electronics. This salt residue will trap microscopic amounts of moisture that will not evaporate. It can make a detector act very strange.
