I am asking these questions to decide if i should my self open the controller. I have scratches on my controller WS5 that i have had for maybe 3 years. Deus repair told me if i ever open the controller it voids warranty PLUS THEY will NEVER work on it and repair it again. So here are my questions and and only answer them if you have personally experienced them

1. What Controllers do you have i have 2 WS 5's
2.How long have you had them ? Me 2 to 3 years i would guess
3.What software version Me 5.2
4. What issues did you have ? I only have scratches on my screen
5.Did you get the Issue fixed ? I have done nothing as of yet. Trying to decide what to do with mine.
6.Have you ever opened the controller ? I have not as of yet I am trying decide LOL
7.Have you ever had to send in your controllers ? I have not. Only issues is the scratches
8.Are you using a screen protector and what kind if yes and where did you get it.

I realize i am asking a lot but i think we all can benefit from these questions . Also while typing here I want to

WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
In closing I want to thank the staff here at TreasureNet for keeping a VERY nice and informative forum

Gare,

First of all Merry Christmas and have a safe beeping 2019 to you and all my friends on TNET.

Regarding your questions -

WS5 are the headphones, not the LCD remote control display. The controller doesn't care what type of headphones you use (WS4 or WS5). If you are talking about the WS5 headphones and that their display is scratched, I wouldn't bother with it as I don't really do not use that display much.

However, if you are talking about the LCD remote control display - that part number is D08 (no one uses that to describe it, though).

With that cleared up:

1. What Controllers do you have - I have the D08 paired with WS4 headphones.
2.How long have you had them ? - I have had mine 3 to 4 years
3.What software version - 5.2
4. What issues did you have ? - None
5.Did you get the Issue fixed ? - N/A
6.Have you ever opened the controller ? Nope
7.Have you ever had to send in your controllers ? Nope
8.Are you using a screen protector and what kind if yes and where did you get it. - Yes - I use a generic brand removable vinyl sleeve cover with a clear plastic front. Got it off ebay for about $15 Keeps the controller looking like new. Just search ebay for Deus cover and it should pop up. Do not use the XP branded silicone cover as it scratches easily such that the screen cover becomes foggy and makes the remote screen unreadable.

btw - I doubt I would bother with the expense and hassle of replacing the screen myself and certainly would not pay to have it replaced because it was scratched unless it really affected my ability to make out specific numbers or settings. I would wait until the remote needed some other warranty work or a battery replacement. Opening up something like that is always a risky proposition and it would basically have to not be working at all before I would consider cracking the case. JMO.

Also, in your case, since you have two remotes (I think), just relegate the scratched up one to emergency back up duty or give it to your swinging partner. No need to ever use it unless your primary controller breaks for some reason. Or if you can stand it, use the scratched one fulltime and feel content in knowing that if something else happens to it, you have a pristine second controller sitting around waiting for you.

P.S., any way you can take a pic of the screen with the remote on and post it to see how bad it is?

The protective screen looks like a very good idea but I wonder about visibility. The Deus screen can be quite hard to read on a sunny day. I often find that I need to turn so the sun is on my back and the unit is in the shade. Does the protective screen add to that problem?

Vferrari vI not only like your posting i love it. I thought Deus has a a couple types controllers a round one and a square type one. The scratches on my Controller are not that bad but I like keeping all my equipment in top notch condition. You can see in the enclosed picture. Also i would like for All treasurenet members to realize how lucky we ar eto have people like you on here and THANKS BUDDY !!! controller.webp

Gare, one of me hobbies is working on old watches. Most of them have plastic crystals that scratch easily. I have a very fine compound that I use to remove small scratches and polish the crystals. I use a buffing wheel. you could get some fine polishing compound and a Dremel tool or even polish it by hand. GO SLOW and take your time and it should be fine. Good Luck.

Yes, you will have to deal with sun glare. Some of the sleeves fare better than others in that respect, but it seems different sellers come and go so I can't make a specific recommendation. You can also try cutting non-glare phone screen protectors to fit and applying those to the screen, but then you are not protecting the controller buttons.

Those are pretty bad scratches cosmetically but I don't think they really obscure your screen that much. Nevertheless, Gene's suggestion is a pretty good one. You should PM him to get more detailed advice on how to buff those scratches out. I know that can work out pretty good on plastic if done properly.

The non-glare smart phone screen protecters cut to size work really well. As vferrari suggested.
Before I would send that in and pay $100 plus to have it replaced I would either live with it or polish it as Gene suggested.
Good luck with what ever you decide.

And Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and have a great New Year to ALL

Flitz metal polish and a dremal at slowest speed is your new best friend, or ( I have a Auto Body Background ) you can sand with 3M 3000 Grit "pads" and then compound with a real buffer and polish to a mirror shine.
Another idea is put thick 3M plastic over the screen and scratches, the plastic will hid and protect from new ones, easily found on amazon or Ebay. I put it EVERYTHING that I don't want messed up in area's I know are going to get abused. It comes in different mill thickness

I use a control unit cover that I bought from an eBay seller in the Ukraine, it works well and protects the unit and screen very well.
I have dealt with Moe at the repair center at Detector Electronics and he has been very helpful. Now I know for a fact if you open up a unit that is under warranty and they find out, the warranty will not cover repairs. BUT if you have a unit that is out of warranty and you want it repaired I do not see why they would not work on it. It is still money in their pocket for the repair. I have a Deus remote that is no longer under warranty that I am sending in to have the back replaced due to the connection pocket being worn and falls off the shaft once in awhile. Called them for a RA# and they were nothing but nice. Give them a call personally and I am sure they will do whatever they need to make you happy.
