In passed post's I had said I was picking up half proofs at the local petro station and met the guy today who was using them to buy coffee. We both agreed they were face value coins But today I told him I'd buy all he has for face and he agreed. I'll use them for raffle prizes at our metal detecting meetings. Any way he explained he has been selling his collection of silver half's and Morgans at the local coin store but didn't like the idea of a 1099 every time he sells so I told him I'd buy them all (I know paying spot is not as good as finding them at face but what the heck) My Question what's a good price to pay for these (scrap) not important dates. He has 5 to 6 hundred (face)in 90% halfs and several hundred in morgans.

Hell, if i was buying them all i would give him less than spot on them! go for a DEAL!

He obviously knows what they are worth, but I'd still offer 80-90% of face. That has to be more than he's getting from the coin shop and no 1099 for him. Should be a win-win? My two cents...

Use spot on the day he sells and offer 80% and pay no more than 90%, but really press for 80% before you agree to 90% as a last resort.

why dont you just call the coin shop that he usually sells to and ask them what they pay.... Then pay him that amount.

must have a miser of a coin shop....CNI doesn't give you one unless its 1000 face or more of junk silver.

I sold 250 and they didnt even ask my name. Just a receipt and a pile of fat cash back in september at 43 per Toz.

I agree with Numi's advice. I believe that silver will go back up and you can score well.
Just my two cents worth. Sounds like he doesn't like the 1099 problem. Go for it!
