Detector(s) used
White's MXT 300 w/950 coil, Bounty Hunter, Discover 3300 w/a 10" Bounty Hunter, Magnum Power Search Coil
Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
First of all let me say that I know nothing about this machine but what I have read in the TN reviews and the tesoro website.

1.) How good is this machine for CW relic hunting? On a scale of 1-10?

2.) What kind of depths do you guys get out of these detectors with the stock coils on them?

3.) How would this machine compare to a White's XLT?

4.) Is $300 a good deal for one that is brand new in the box?

Thanks!

1) Probably about 6-7 It has a lower freq. than the Tejon which is considered Tesoro's relic machine. Thus it does pretty good on brass, silver, and coins.
2) around 6 to 10" depending on type of soil-if more mineralized then expect a bit less depth because of no manual ground balance.
3) Haven't compared it to XLT
4) That's a very good price!

First......thats a GREAT price even for a used one w/o a box! I went out hunting a park (just clad etc.) with my brother using a Whites (i think XLT) whichever one cost him a lil over 1000 bucks and I found more coins then him just in the time I saw him "programing???" his detector. As for relic hunting this thing finds a BB like 5 to 6 in the ground where I live. Bigger iron of coarse will detect deeper. Its really a great machine at a great price. I havnt found a reason to pay more. But thats just me, not knocking any other machine but I simply find things with my deleon and I have fun and its just turn on and go for me.

The D is a great machine  for me in my area but it is a preset ground balance so if you have bad ground it wouldnt be a good choice. It detects deep but more important it will pick out good stuff right next to trash or iron and is light and easy to use and a lot of fun! From everything I see the Tejon would be a better CW relic hunting choice because it is deeper with man. gr. balance and detects at 17khz which is better for relics and the D is 10 khz which is better for coinshooting.

Thanks on the input guys! I'm gonna see if I can get it!

I LOVE THE DELEON TO THE POINT I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE ON EBAY. IT HAS VARIABLE COIL SIZES YOU CAN USE FOR DIFFRENT APPLACATION , AND YES I DO USE IT FOR RELIC HUNTING . I GIVE IT A 10 IN MY BOOK. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT HAS THE WHITES XLT AND HE WILL ASK ME TO CHECK THE AREA WITH MY DELEON. IVE FOUND IDEMS HE;S MISSED..... ;D

I had a delon at one point and can honestly say it does not compare to the vaquero in terms of bullet depth. I took it as well as my vaq to a site that had been producing numerous cw bullets. After finding a target I believed was a bullet, I marked it then went to retrieve the new deleon. After returning the deleon would not give any signal with the slightest of disc while the vaq hit hard well past iron. Sure enough, it was a bullet. After that, I couldnt go back to the deleon and eventually sold it. However, it was great on coins, good TID for shallower coins.

I don't have a Deleon, but I do have a Cortez, which is similar to the Deleon, and I also owned an XLT.

XLT is about a pound heavier. This was an issue for me and was one of the reasons I chose to sell it but may not an issue for you if you're used to a heavier detector

The XLT has menu driven settings vs knobs. I found it cumbersome to scroll up and down through several pages of menus to make a change, expecially those that you may want to do frequently, like changing discrimination if your trying to decide whether or not to dig something. On the Deleon or Cortes you simply turn a knob up or down

With the XLT you can, however, create custom programs to match your hunting preferences and save them so you don't need to fiddle with it so much.

Also, as others have mentioned, the Deleon doesn't have manual ground balancing, the XLT does, so may be a better choice for some soil conditions. The Cortes does have manual ground balancing in the all metal mode.
