Prospecting around Boone or general area?

Anyone do gold panning or sluicing around Boone or vicinity. I am in Johnson City, Tn and Coker Creek is a little bit of a drive for me (about 4 hours). I was wondering if there may be any gold spots over the Mountain. I know about Lucky Strike and Thermal City. I was on the other side of Vein Mountain this weekend. I want to look further north of I-40 in the wild if there is anything there.

Are you saying that prospecting is dead up there?
Or just trying to span out from there?
