Hi all,

I wanted to say first of all that this site is amazing, so much info about so many areas.

I do have a question ,
would anyone know about the prospecting laws and treasure hunting laws of british columbia?
A website or personal knowledge?
I have been on the government of Canada's website for many hours and have learned that the laws are provincial not federal,
after googling that for a few more hours with no luck, I thought I would ask around here.
I am new to MD and prospecting, but have always had the fever hehe.
Thanks in advance to any that can get back to me.

If the laws are provincial, there may not be any fed. laws, as there would be no need. You may try contacting a MD club in BC, or Quebec and ask them.

For BC, you can go to the following website: http://www.mtonline.gov.bc.ca/ From the main page, click on "Placer map". This will bring up a clickable, zoomable map that you can use to view the area that you are interested in. It will show all mineral titles that are active and it is updated every 24 hrs. You can zoom in to any scale that you want. It is a nice topographical map that has everything marked. You definitely do not want to stray into an active claim while searching around in the woods with a metal detector. If there are a lot of mineral claims in the area where you will be looking, bring a gps to be safe.
