AVATAR: MY Wife Saying....

"Your going Metal Detecting
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
This all started on Saturday to go detecting on Sunday.
I meet my buddy, JIM who I have known for 12-13 years and I got him interested in metal detecting last year, at his house. When I get there he has second thoughts about going. He said he was going to call me to tell me that. I told him your going cause we planned it Sat.
So off we went...Hit some tear downs, got some change but nothing to write home about...
I told him that I had to be going soon since my Son was in from College for the night...
We were heading home when I spotted a tear down and said,Hey lets do it for a 1/2 hour then go...
We get out there and about 15 minutes went by and I found a 1937 Quarter.
A little frustration came to light from him by him saying. " Every time we go out your always finding silver, I haven't found any this year".
Then he started hunting next to me. I said this my area go over there. ( A FRIENDLY WAY ) So he moved away.
2 or 3 minutes later he's yelling "I beat your silver quarter I beat it I beat it".
Ya right!!!
I got GOLD!!!!! It turned out to be a 10K Purdue 1987 Class Ring...with 2 diamonds.
Smile's and HIGH FIVES and CONGRATS took place..
We then left the area to go home.
Congrats all the way home....
Jim and I were some HAPPY Metal Detecting Dudes....

Now to the next day....

The school helped a lot in finding the Owner for Jim.
Tues. He called me and asked me if I wanted to go with him to give it back to the Owner on Wed. morning.
Here is the pictures of the ring and the Owner.
The Ring was lost 8 years ago by the Owners ,then 6 year old daughter.
Hey JIM CONGRATS Buddy......and....
Thanks for the including me in on a great memory to share with all to see....

and............JIM L.

Re: Friend Finds College Ring (Sun) Returened to Owner after 8 years lost on (We

Awesome post guys! Congrats on the return, it is a great feeling and better than the rings value. HH, Mike

It's always good to return something to its owner (or surviving family members)

It really says a lot for our hobby!!! Hopefully it also does something to reduce the negative image cast upon us as a group brought on by the creeps who trespass, sneak onto national historic battlefields at night, and those who don't like to fill in their holes or haul out the trash they dig up!

I have a 10K 1966 class ring that I found in 2006 that I'm still working on. I think it's from the town that I found it in because the stone is one of their school colors. The crest is missing from the stone though. That and the back of the band being cracked leads me to believe that it took a good knock from a lawn mower blade before it began to play like it was Dig-Dug and start going down.

I've just not gotten around to checking with the school records, Josten's, and the 1966 yearbook yet. One of my goals is to get that done and hopfully return it after I get home from Iraq in the Spring.

WTG with casting a positive image on our hobby!!!!

HH,
SgtSki

I think it was very Honorable that Jim returned the ring...
I hope that the good deed that he did comes back to him ten fold.....
