pyrite acorn?

Found this at a yard sale persons grandfather was a rockhound i got some other nice specimins as well i took it to a local geoligist and she said it looks like an acorn the 2 smooth marks look to be where the branches were i was wondering if there was another posiability before i declare it to be a pyrotized acorn thanks

Update i took it to my rock club and overwhelmingly agreed it was a fossil acorn before i told them my opinion none had ever seen one they said mostly marine fossils fossilize from pyrite they said it most likely formed at a shoreline
