Found early on this week on a fairly short hunt (cut short by rain) but just before the downpour l was lucky enough to find this very small Gold coin. only about 11mm diameter, and 1.4 grams.
my 1st quarter for 3 years. lucky it was only about 3 inches deep. and it was like new when found
even if its over 2000 years old.

I'm lucky l have two fields of sugarbeet which are still small enough for me to detect, but then it looks like nothing untill the winter barley in about 4/6 weeks, Cheers, Hutch.

Yes, I'm waiting on the Barley, but in the mean time I'm stumped!

That's what I call banner material, who doesn't want to find a 2,000 year old gold coin!!! Better than any gold coin that can be found in the states.

Usually in north Cambridgeshire about 25 m radius of PE1. plenty of good areas around here. cheers Hutch.

Great find, I really like those golden pony coins. A 1/4 is pretty small easy to miss...I imagine.

Would imagine there's some serious history there OldSoapy. My wife is originally from Bath/Bristol area and always nice to do a little detecting when there. We went on holiday in Devon a couple years back and I did well including two Roman coins (dupondius, sesturtius) which I hear are rare in the area.

Truly a great save !!
The letters within the rectangle are TASCI, short for Tasciovanos (as the IP mentions) who was a Celtic King between 25 BC and 10 AD.
Don........
Thanks Don.
Tasciovanos was King of the Trinovantes and Catuvellanui Tribe based at St Albans . North of the Thames. my 1st one of that Tribe.
Hutch.

Strange, I would have expected most of yours to be that tribe. Are you getting mostly Iceni then?

Usually its Corieltauvi , South Ferriby or East Coast .l've never had an Iceni yet.

Awesome piece of history right there. You've got my Banner vote.

Yes Rick the quarter Gold stater is very small and would be very easily missed unless you were searching with one of the top detectors. ie T2 etc. Here is a picture that gives you some way of realizing just how small.!! Cheers. Hutch.
