Well my Dad and I got to get out for a few hours yesterday after we closed up the store. We thought we would scout a yard we have recently acquired permission to hunt. It is the yard of the "Swift Hotel" here in our town, which the hotel was built around the time of our town becoming an incorporated city, 1888. It is the only surviving hotel building still standing. It is a residence today. Anyway, I got there a bit before my Dad and started swinging. Found out real quick that this yard is FULL of junk (thinking smaller coil at this point). Got a couple of good signals and pulled out a couple of wheaties. Dad showed up and started swinging. We was kinda "cherry picking" for this short hunt. I found some newer coinage and junk. Here in a bit he walked over to me and handed me a dirt caked medal of some sort. I told him I figured it was gonna be good, but we needed to wait till we got home to clean it. Found a few more trinkits before dark and called it a day. After the cleanup, we managed to get 1949-d, 1944-s, and 1919-d wheaties, a 1992 dog tag, a copper elongated washer, part of a small wind chime, a 2007 silver Christmas bell (which I gave back to the landowner), 47 cents in clad, part of a zipper pull, an old key, and the best...a Queen Victoria souvenir medal! It reads Souvenir at the top, then on the 6 point star it reads Queen's Diamond Jubilee 1837-1897 with an embossed bust of Queen Victoria. The back reads Schwaab Stamp & Seal Co. Milwaukee, Wis. U.S.A. From the research I have done, there was many types of coins and souvenir medals made to commemorate the Queen's 60 year reign, some even officially minted. This appears to be the only type medal that was made in the USA. Found only 1 other example on the net. Funny how something like that would end up here in Arkansas. Anyhow, enjoy and HH.
