question about clad coin totals

8.6 pennies found for every other coin.

Which is down from 1984 when it was 12.3

Really feel that new highs will never be reached
because of inflationary pressures, heightened
recessionary signals in the form of reduced consumer
sentiment, and the continued devaluation of the U.S.
dollar.

Like many others, I feel that water may be held back by
a dam, but if it breaks through the dam, you would
know that it would continue downward until it reached
another dam, or some obstruction or resistance which
would stop it. Therefore, it is very important to watch
old levels.

i concur ;D

Of my last 9979 coins, pennies were 51%. My total was $669.40, the pennies were $50.75 of the total.

Two of my best gold rings ( biggest) registered the same as rotten zinc pennies and so do some of my indian heads. Also in the trashy areas I hunt, pennies can mask or change the ID of good targets. So I guess I'll keep digging them. Rob

No ??? :-\

Your saying, of 9,979 coins
5,089 were pennies
and 4,890 were somethng other??????????

Almost one on one ratio?
Is my math correct ???
I must be missing something on this one. :P

5075 pennies
1092 nickels
2628 dimes
1175 quarters
3 halfs
6 Dollars
There were about 120 wheaties I had in a separate bag and 22 silver coins not in the total.
As I remember DFXGreg did 10,000 coins this year ( mine weren't all this year) and his total was $700.00. That's not that far from mine. He lives in Chicago and I'm about 30 miles from there.

rcasi44,

the slums next year. ;D

If I have to bend down to dig it, I count it. I gave up counting years ago and just enjoy everyone that comes out of the ground or bottom of a lake or shore.
What Sherm said about where some of the pennies register in at is correct. If you stop digging pennies you can miss lots of better stuff.

I checked for the post,

Thanks at 10708 coins for year...I have also seen a few that hit $700 in clad...that is my last goal for this year....I am at $685.54...

Nice finds Gregg, thats alot of digging and closing in on $700. After todays 18 coins, including two wheats(17, 18) I'm at 9040 coins and a total of $753.33.

Jack out did me. Rob

the reason i ask is because i have a neat little high/low conductive switch
on my TROY
zics (yes zics)
ring up on the high side choppy / tic tic tic
indians on the high side, no sound, unless it is deep (it will click, not a tic on the rim edge)
copper pennies ,big pennies ring solid on the high/low side
the first years i detected with it i dug 3500 pennies
i ended up with a little over $300 (cant remember)
i spent some 1/4's on smokes and coffee before the total count
just curious

My first year I had nearly $400.00 in clad , about two thirds of that was pennies! What I am finding now is the new cent that is nearly corroded away. I just toss them in the scrap heap. I think because of the cheap material used there won't be that many pennies found in a few years. I don't count coins as such , just cash them in when my coffee can gets full. I have just about quit digging penny signals though. Monty

You sure are right about the zinc's, not lasting. The ring that is my avatar is a state championship ring and it is big. It rang in at a 57 on my MXT which is a bad zinc penny. A new zinc reads more like 62 -65. The story got me a free coil from Whites. As I said earlier, some indian heads read like zinc's. Have a good one. Rob

I have at least 5 huge soccer fields to detect. It appears to me by my finds that I am the only one hitting the area. City park employee told me that he has worked 7 years taking care of the parks and has never seen another person metal detecting. This week I finally finished the first one. Took me two weeks. Totals: quarters-31, dimes 83, nickels 8, pennies 171, rings 2. Thank goodness for pennies. Monty is right on them new pennies. 3-4 years old and they look like junk.

Depends how you dig. Some people dig Zincs, I don't. Some people pass on pennies altogether. I'd be left with about 40% of my clad if the pennies were removed.

I can tell nearly 100% of the time when it is a zinc penny. However the older penny with more copper content often reads as a dime in all my machines both in tone and the icon on the screen. So, I don't skip pennies altogether, just the ones I am pretty darn sure are of the zinc variety. Monty

Same here.........you never know when a dime can come in as a penny. Zincs, I leave them there to rot.

My current numbers and percentages... up to date....11/15/07 pcv per coin value of 6.41 cents per coin...

dollar coins (Sac) 3
half dollars 1
cents 6275 58%
nickels 708 7%
dimes 2494 23%
quarters 1382 12%

Total coins 10,863 $696.55

I too, pass on alot of shallow zinc signals, BUT I have pulled a few indians less than two inches deep that rang in as zincs, so you never know.
