Hi all Excalibur owners or past owners. I'm just about to put my money down, but still having second thoughts. I am kinda far out from mainstream metal detectors, so don't have a lot of first hand info about Excalibur. I know most questions are about what is the best detector, but I would like to hear about the down side of Excalibur. Most of my detecting is beach, or other wet areas, some diving, (but not down to 200'!) also artifact, cache, and desert.

Are there and bad points that I should consider? I don't worry so much about warranty repairs, since I will have to send it out of the country anyway, so that will always be a problem, no matter what detector I buy. The last Excalibur catalog proudly mentions the new green decal, I just hope that isn't the only improvement.

So please, if you have any "not so good" points, about Excalibur, I would like to hear about them, or maybe an alternative to Excalibur.
Thank you!

The Excal is little heavy for land hunting. I highly recommend you put a straight shaft on it, and possibly a harness, especially if your going to do much land hunting with it....You will not beat it for hunting the beaches there.........

To be honest with you i saw were a lot of the new green decals have been wearing off the detector.......... And like the new Garrett AT pro..The Excalibur has been known to be not working properly new right out of the box.............

I don't have the Excal II but do have the Excal I or the older one. I only had to send that one in for repair of a coil about 4 years ago. If there is a downside to the Excal II it would have to be price most of all and the cheap battery charger they ship with the unit. We replace the charger with one that tells us when the battery is charged and it shuts off. I hang my Excal from my neck so the weight is no problem now but I still use a straight shaft because it is longer and you get a larger sweep to cover more sand without having to walk fast. If there was any improvement to make to the Excal it would be to make a Excal III by making the Sov GT waterproof. If your not going in the water the Sov GT is the way to go... :headbang:
