Picked up my first ever box of nickels. I have read that people keep all pre 1960 nickels. WHY?? What if any nickels other that the war nickels have any sale value. I understand that buffalo and v nickels would but I mean in jefferson nickels. I only want to keep them if they have value.

Good Hunting!!!

Some save them simply because after 1960 nickels were mass produced to the extent that only uncirculated examples carry a premium. But certain early non-silvers are worth a dollar or two each even in the lowest grades. A couple approach $5 each.

But true collectors don't need monetary reasons to save pre-60s. I've saved a roll of almost every date just for the fun of it and the fact that they'll soon all be over 50 years old. Everyone has a different interpretation of "value."

Go with what Immy said, and also remember, they all have value. They are all worth at least $0.05.

I fully agree with Immy. It depends on your interpretation of 'value'. WELL said!!!!!

the 1938-D, 1938-S, 1939-D, 1939-S, 1950-D are nice finds besides the war nickels
