Detector(s) used
Delta 4000 and Garrett 300 Teknetics T2 Minelab Explorer SE Pro
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Air testing my md with the sensitivity turned all the way up and and in all metal, all I can get on coins is 5.5 inches. Wedding band will register at 6 inches.....can I assume I need to jack this one up and run another one under it? Does this mean under normal conditions any coin deeper than 5.5 I am probally missing?

What detector? Always helps to say.

Yes, there's a very good chance your detector will be limited to those depths, however... if you are airtesting inside you might have a lot of interference fighting against you. Is that with a small coil by any chance?

Garrett Ace 300 with 8" coil.......probally 15 years old............and if you swing the coil half inch or an inch off the ground you will lose more?

More than likely. You have to keep in mind you're using a lower end unit, and was a lower end at the time of its release. You would probably be a whole lot more happy upgrading to a new ace 250. Having said that, I haven't used either.

Hi,
The air test isn't the final verdict. As iron Patch said, you will probably be limited to about 5"-6". Bury the targets and see what you get. My guess is that you'll see a slight improvement in depth, but not much. Even todays low end detectors struggle in the depth dept. I use an F2 when hunting schools and parks. That machine averages 6" depth in disc mode. When shifted to pinpoint mode, it'll go to about 12". The trouble is, you can't hunt in that mode. So, bury the target and see what you get.
