First i would like to thank you all for the replies. I could post a base of another one i found in that same field but, it wasnt in the same place if you think that could help you determine what it is. MY questions about restoration would be, who is DR. Gomer? how do you get in touch with them? how much do you think it would cost to restore it? what is the restoring procedure? how much do you think it is worth now in this condition oppose to getting it restored? If i found the stem would that help in the restoring process, because we are about to go dig up the spot where we found it Thanks CMRS

the base you found does't match the point does it, try it if you did't already. i've seen a few broken points mathced up that we're found years apart from the same field and not always from the same spot inthe field. sometimes the two pieces are different colors because they weathered in different soil and\or different depths. that is a beautiful piece!!!

Here's a link to Dr Gomers web site so you can get his contact info and see some of his work. He restored a Thebes for me a while back and did an excellent job for a very reasonable price. Here's a couple of pictures of it.

Don't do it. You own the property right? That's an ancient break I'd say. You could find that base, but if you don't it will still be the object of attention in a case.

SoILL why not restore it? if we did would it up the value any or diminish it? We would never sell it our dad found it so, we want to keep it in the family, thanks for your input

If you did find the base at a later date all you have to do is snap off the restored area and put the real base back on it.

I wouldn't think it would change the value at all. I just ain't into spending money to make point's look like something they're not. It's not mine though.

hey SOILL, how do you know its an ancient break?IMO if its an ancient break the odds go way down on finding the base.now if it was broke by the plow a few years ago then the base is laying in the field somewhere.so i would be hoping that its not an ancient break if it were mine.and dorkfish is correct just snap off the restoration if you find the base.
