I found this at a dump in a old S.A.&A.P (San Antonio & Aransas Pass railroad) town. It seems that the railroad was minimally dumping there as I can confirm a item to be a rail spike. Is this a rail fastener bolt? It is exactly 4.8 inches long and is squared off under the head. If this is one, then it is a rare item as, S.A.&A.P. items are hard to find.

Looks consistent to be Railroad Iron. I have found those also along the ACL (Atlantic Coast Line) , Spikes, Plates, fasteners

It's called a carriage bolt. Being that length I would guess it came from a box car?

That’s awesome! So when bolts are called “carriage bolts” does that mean they are railroad related ? I always thought it meant a wagon.

No, a carriage bolt has a rounded head the does not protrude. They were used in carriage seats and many other places where you didn't need a bolt head sticking out!
