Rainy day hunt

It sure wasn't a pretty day out this time. I picked a beach that I don't go to very often. It is a small beach and I have never seen anyone hunt in the water there but I have seen one guy hunt the sand a couple of times. He doesn't care to talk though. I figured there would be something in the water and there was - just no jewelry. If there is ... I didn't find it. Ah well there is always next time. I ended up with 2 bobby pins, 2 fish hooks, 1 sinker, 1 nail, some bottle caps, a pull tab and 91 cents in clad. It did not rain while I was there but it did start raining when I was on my way home and has been raining ever since. Well I won't be greedy. I'll take it!

Two questions:

What kind of nail is that? It has two little things sticking out of it. I pick up these nails at this beach all the time but I've never picked them up anywhere else.

Do rays dig and leave holes? I know they bury themselves in the sand so when they take off they leave a hole? I bet that is what that lady that complains about me digging holes is stepping in. Possible?

They are roofing nails that are used in one of those nail gun shooters. They are linked together with a small wire to feed through the gun as the operator shoots them into the roof.

Nice for construction but nasty on the feet. If there is no construction in that area, I would say somebody is trying to hurt swimmers.

guys shoot them out into the water out of boredom, although I have personnally, and me only that I know of, have shot a rat thru the head with a 12d from 10 ft away. I even have witnesses. Deadeye dave with a portercable airnailer.

No construction. It is a wonder that people don't step on them! I've found them mainly IN the water but have found a few in the dry sand. OUCH!

I've found those nails too. I always thought they were thrown in the water by the last hurricane.
