I decided to go out for a couple of hours Sunday afternoon. By the time I got up and motivated, it was about 3 then with the drive, I didn't start until 330. Almost instantly after getting out of the car it started to rain. I waited 5 minutes to see if it would let up, nope. I figured waterproof detector , what's the worst that could happen? I walked out to this cellar( 10 minutes) then started to go. I've hit this place about a dozen times and not got a button or coin. Its right off this abandoned road and been pounded to death. There's also a bunch of trash and bullet shells all around so its kind of hard to get a clean signal. I'm one of those people who will keep going back, thinking that no place is ever hunted out. 5 minutes after getting here, it started to pour. I said I'll give this 45 minutes then quit. After 20 minutes, I was like a drowned rat out there and hadn't found a thing. Getting ready to quit, I hit a mid/ high tone but clean with a 78 vdi. I had hopes but those have been dashed before but old cans. Not this time...

I was beginning to wonder if I was going to find one this year. The back was covered in crud so I threw it in olive to soften it. You couldn't see anything before but after a day , I got this....

The first counter stamped coin I've ever seen. It says WC . Pretty cool.

Awesome! Congrats! Don't think I've seen one either.

Very nice Large Cent & the counter stamp gives it character.

first off congrats, now for the questions-- is the date an '08 or '03. has the bust of what should be an '07, since '08 was the classic head facing left. should be 29MM at 10.89 grams. LC's on my ATPro hit as 85-86. the WC is cool but you may want to have the coin looked at, a great find but could it be a counterfeit ?, which might even be better

Here's a pic that has a better shot of The date 1803

Beauty draped bust. A counter stamp only makes it that much more awesome. Congrats.

Your persistence in the weather and at a pounded site surely paid off. I think that rain may have helped you get a good signal on that target.

Now that is a cool, old nice looking coin!!! Great save!!!!!:occasion14:

Here's a pic of the back after a 4 day soak in oil. Starting to get some good detail!
