Hello intrepid treasure people. So I was digging a random emergency yard (what you dig when you have nothing better and are jonesing for dirt) and pulled out some mystery buttons. cAn you help? One has a plumed crown (?) on it and on the back it says "Lewis's Liverpool". I've done the usual Googling and know that was a department store chain starting in the 1850s. But did they make buttons too? Is this off a more modern coat? The other is a very plain front and on the back it says "Gumma Hosei" -- I see one reference to a Japanese company. Any ideas? Hi Whithill, I believe your feathered button is British military and likley 19th century. A number of British & Welsh regiments, like the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, use the 3-feather device. It is referred to as the "Prince of Wales feathers". Try a google search. Nice find!
