Found some rare books today along with a ton of other pieces of junk that someone was throwing away.
Here are a few of the things...

The first is the 1898 edition of Nansen's Farthest North - a first hand account of Fridtjof Nansen's voyage of exploration to the North Pole from 1893-1896. The book is full of photos, illustrations, and maps documenting the adventures of the explorer and his shipmates. Their ship the Fram was very unique - it had an early electric dynamo that they connected to a windmill to generated electricity. The electricity was used to power light bulbs they had rigged up. The ship also had an innovative engine that had a feature that allowed it to continue working even if one or even two of the three pistons became damaged. This true adventure story predates the more famous Shackleton Expedition by more than two decades.

The second and much more valuable book is this very rare copy of the Voice of Israel by Abba Eban. It was written in 1957 during his time as Israeli ambassador to the United State. It is a Presentation Edition - a book specifically made by the author as a gift to a close friend or dignitary, as a result only a few handfuls are known to exist. It is hand signed by Eban in blue pen and was presented to a man named Philip Diamona (or Diamond?).

I also found this interesting little thing - a "Shatillon's Improved Spring Balance" patented in New York December 10th 1867.

The only known copy of a signed Presentation Edition of the Abba Eban book that I can find for sale is currently priced at $800. Signed versions of common books or photos of Eban are priced between $50 and $100.
