While hunting fossils at the Western AR coal mines, I found a rare set of leaves,,
They are called (Asterophyllites), they were in an impression in hard shale, & were attached to the plant (Calamites), the plants resemble modern day bamboo, except they have small lines running up & down, & then the jointed section.
I also found two Calamites, which I gave to some folks from Hot Springs, who were collecting for an interpretive center in their area.
Also gave them a fossil leaf (Pecopteris), which are very abundant here.
These fossils are from the (Pennsylvanian Era), the mines are being reclaimed, so it is a race against the bulldozer, to salvage all we can before they are covered forever.
