Ok guys. I initially wasn't going to post this. While I was hunting last week I unearthed literally the rarest US silver coin of the 20th century. A 1901 S Barber Quarter!!!! VF/XF (details) with environmental damages and a few scratches. Yes... It's a crying shame its a "dug" coin... But hey... It's the find of a lifetime. There's no doubt in my mind about it's authenticity. The site it was found at, simply put, hasn't been touched since around 1920. I've also had several local dealers (one of which was a former PCGS grader) tell me it's genuine. I know either way it needs to be graded and slabbed, but what are your thoughts? Value? Grade? Where to sell? Thanks! Still spinning! Idaho! On the map!!!

Congrats Doc on simply one of the greatest finds ever! I use PCGS Photograde as my grading tool, and I would put your coin at XF or just slightly less for detail. It does have a little grainy or porous look on the reverse (? pic) and a few nicks, but it still rates a very high grade.

IMHO, consider using PCGS as your grading service if you get it slabbed, as they are very highly respected and their encapsulations seem to bring higher prices when sold. I used Heritage Auction Galleries in Texas when I sold my Pine Tree Shilling, and they did a great job- 5% was their fee.

Whatever you decide to do, congratulations again and good luck- that coin is seriously a lifetime find!

I know it's just a coin, but for some people that has the potential to be a life changer due to its value, Ive read that it can fetch anywhere from 4 thousand to 36000. Absolutely banner vote in!
Cherish thay baby its a great one!!
Congrats!!

I don't think it matters what it grades at.
It's still a Banner find.

AWESOME FIND!!!

My banner vote is in, just on rarity, not to mention how nice the condition is of your coin.

NGC shows value to be much greater then coin tracker, here is a link to your coin.

1901 S 25C MS Barber Quarters | NGC

Scroll down and look at some of the auction prices realized, look at the shape of some that sold for 8 k

Amazing find! You couldn't find a silver coin much more valuable. It is not however, the rarest by mintage. Check out a 1916 SLQ. Great find and my fingers immediately went to the banner button. It EASILY qualifies.
