A Rasmussen poll released Thursday indicates that 26% of President Obama’s supporters see the Tea Party as the nation’s “top terror threat.”
Perhaps more shockingly, a staggering 20% of government workers apparently hold a similar view, ranking the Tea Party as a greater national security risk than radical Muslims.
“Among those who Strongly Approve of the president, more fear the Tea Party than radical Muslims,” the report says.

The survey took place between June 22-23, 2013 among 1,000 likely voters. The sampling error is considered to be +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
The exact wording of the question was: “Which is a bigger terrorist threat to the United States today – radical Muslims, the Tea Party, local militia groups, the Occupy Wall Street movement, or other religious or political extremists?”
Among all likely voters, Rasmussen reports that 51% said radical Islam is the biggest national security threat, compared to just 13% who cited the Tea Party.
Among those who disapprove of President Obama’s performance, 75% said they consider radical Muslims to be the bigger threat, compared to just 1% who said the Tea Party.
And while 20% of government workers apparently view the Tea Party as a national security risk, only 13% of private sector workers responded the same.
The report comes as the nation struggles to reform the Internal Revenue Service, which admitted to targeting conservative organizations for (sometimes years of) additional scrutiny, and reports that the NSA has been archiving all Americans’ telephone records for security purposes.
