After waiting as patiently as possible for 9 days for my new XLT to arrive from
Kellyco (I'm as far away as you can be and still be in the US - near Seattle),
it finally came last night. My wife doesn't know about it - I told her I had
a really nice detector 'somewhere' from my first marriage that I never got
to use - was going to 'find it' this weekend (after it actually came from Kellyco)
and hit the places I've been scoping out, where my old Whites 4000d can't
find things anymore.

Well, it finally came and this morning after she went to work (I work at
home) I opened the carton to assemble it and hit the back yard, only to
find it's BROKEN!! The meter display case is cracked and the board was
coming out. Appears to be a combination of White's using a cheesy box
that lacks protection of the meter (only 1 inch from the side and top when
packed), and UPS goons stacking heavy stuff on it.

So back on the phone to Kellyco, going through the hassles of a UPS claim
call tag, and now what will be at least a 3 or 4 week additional wait for a
replacement unit.

How disappointing can ya get? >:( :( ??? :-\

Ouch man that really hurts. I got my MXT from Kellyco ,Laura was great. Thank God it arrived ok or I would have freaked. I also know my UPS driver from highschool days and told him what I was expecting. Not a dent. Good Luck!

Zommbee, sorry to here that. Quick question, I got a 5000 D from a customer who's past husband bought in '81. I've been playing with it a couple months now along with my cheap BH and was wondering what kind of depth you were getting with the 4000 D?

Kellyco sent my detector in the original box which is not intended for shipping but luckily it arrived ok. Here, UPS won't even let you insure it if it is not in a more substantial box packed with bubble wrap.

>:( that makes me sick...................spit, cough, vomit. those delivery people are terrible

Interesting footnote - I talked to Whites directly this morning.? They told me
they 'regularly ship detectors in the white carton' and have for years, even
though they ship to Kellyco by placing 6 such cartons in a larger box.? They
do not think Kellyco needs to beef up with a second box.? ?They say it's totally
fine.? Hmmm....? wonder how many damaged units they get back??

I called UPS and asked what the minimum requirements were, and the lady asked
if there was 2" clearance all the around the product with solid foam or 4" with
peanuts... well, neither.? The display unit is about 1" from the side and 1" from the
top of the box.? Next question she asked, can you press on the top of the box
and easily 'feel' the product inside.? Yes, I can!

So it seems that while White's and Kellyco has 'for years' shipped in the white
cardboard box (used in 'master packs' from White's to the dealers), UPS in fact
does NOT consider it a proper box - especially for a 3200 mile gound shipment
from Florida to Seattle....

The replacement unit I'm going to demand double boxing - wonder if Kellyco
will comply?? Probably not, but I'm going to try.? Otherwise it might be August
before I get to replace my very ancient 4000d - if they keep arriving broken!

Sorry to hear that your detector was damaged. I always deal with a local dealer on any thing new that way I am out hunting the day I buy it. The guy I got my DFX from was nice enough to take me to a civil war spot of his to do some detecting there and show me how the machine worked. You just can not get that mail order. I will buy off of ebay on used items but only if I can get them half of retail or less. Good luck on dealing with Kellyco.

Hi Swinging,

I totally agree - I actually DID try to buy locally. Sadly, of the 5 or so 'dealers'
listed at White's website for Washington, NONE actually had an XLT!! They
would happily ORDER one for me - but hey - I can do that myself, and then
save about $95 in sales tax! I would have happily bought at a local shop, as
I firmly believe in that. I even drove to Oregon (Portland area) and the dealer
I took the time to see (just East of Portland proper on 26) has NOTHING
from Whites, and wanted to sell me a Garrett 250 as if that was in any way
similar to an XLT! Oh well.... hopefully Kellyco will eventually come through.
Meantime, someone ought to open a REAL detector shop in Washington!

Good luck i buy mine from a dealer that is just across the state line and have him ship it to me. ;) that way I do not have to pay the taxes.

Loop Swinger you must know my wife! Prada, Dolce Gabana etc...High Maintainence. She tries to explain away all those purchases as "50 % off, etc" BUT 50% off of $1000.00 is still $500.00 Bucks! Got to keep my eyes on the bills more.

And....guess who gets to pay for any future shipping expenses? :-[

Hope everything works out zom. I can imagine how fast your smile turn to disappointment when you opened that box. :-\

I returned my first detector to Kellyco that I got as a Christmas gift as it was not really what I wanted. They have a no questions asked return policy if done within so many days. You have to pay the return shipping but they were very helpful handling mine. I worked with Laura in sales.

Has anyone visited Kellyco. I was in the area and stopped in there showroom. It was pretty impressive. They have a wide variety of machines and accessories as well as displays of finds.

I live in the Tampa area and will probably take a ride to orlando to pick up a CZ-20 on the 22 of feb. Is there any price difference for not ordering online.

I had Heard their Catalog is the Lowest Prices, But that You Can Bargain with them, If Buying On Line or at the store. Don't know if it's true, But If you'r not the type to shy away from, trying to Talk someone Down, Go For it. GOOD LUCK ; jeff

I never ship with ups, unless it's on the customers account.. I ship glassware all over Canada, and the USA, by Expedited Parcel Post (MAIL) from Canada all the time, and I have yet to have a single item arrive broken, or go missing in at least 10 years.. The old post office, can be slow but when you can mail a box of glassware from Canada to nowhere in the middle of Texas, and it arrives safe 'every time' in 12-14 days, I can't see why UPS has such a problem?

Waiting! Waiting! Waiting! We wait on the phone, in line, at the Dr's. office, on the mail, on UPS or FedEx, on the kids, on the wife, on the oil change, at the tire shop, at the repair shop, on the computer to boot up, on the email to down load,on the phone, on the weather to improve, for our new detector to arrive, for the replacement to arrive,or for my business sale to close so I can retire this week, not next week, or next week or next week.

We need to be detecting, digging, finding, exclaiming our surprise at a great find, traveling to a new site, retiring to do what we want, to be enjoying life while we are physically able to do so.

WAITING needs to be removed from the dictionary of our hectic life style of today. Spotz

Sorry! Have to bi--- & complain someplace where there is a captive audience.
