The lettering should read "BEATRICE." The Beatrice company also manufactured mincers, sausage grinders, etc. Meat juice presses were used to extract liquids from meat for feeding invalids. This was a fairly common practice around the 1880's, I believe. In fact, some presses actually had "INVALID" as part of the product name. Meat juices were sometimes given to infants as well. "In 1883 scurvy in infants was distinguished from rickets and treated by fruit juice, potato and fresh meat juice..." Other meat juice press manufacturers include Brighton, Columbia, and Osborne. Here's an example patented in 1884, and listed at $150 U.S.:

well, i think that tinpan is aussie, which means part brit in a historical sense anyway, and me being a dumb murican bout these things, couldn't it also have been used to make blood pudding?? or am i waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off the reservation with that one??
