Got out Friday with vmiairpower to hit some of my older sites. Unfortunately we didn't dig any military buttons but I did dig this dandy button that cleaned up a lot better than I thought it would. An incredible amount of gilt left! Dug the other piece yesterday and have no idea what it was but curious about the markings. Has a thimble shape. Anyone recognize the marks? Thanks for looking and enjoyed meeting another tnetter who shares our "addiction" to relic digging! Look forward to being a better guide with a 20151218_200555-1.webp20151219_162507.webp fresh site soon!

Man that came out NICE! will look good in a case

Thanks y'all for the comments. It did clean up a lot better than I thought it would. Didn't look like that much gilt was left but a quick brush with aluminum jelly really brightened it up! Funny thing is I dug this in a spot that we've hammered for three years now! Just goes to show you a spot is never really "hunted out". Thanks again for the replies and hope everyone has a great Christmas season!

Looks like a small one compared to your fingers, very nice button, congrats

I have dug 2 of those thin pieces both on early Colonial sites..Stagecoach stop to be precise..They are sterling and i was thinking a pipe wrap?

Thanks Blaze. Any idea on the markings? Looks like an anchor, a star and a something (?). C. P. and maybe an E underneath the symbols.

Actually i just had a brain storm i figured it out a few years ago it's probably a Stag handle wrap where the antler meets the metal..

My buddy did find a pipe like that on a real early 1699 site..

Looks to be the right size and shape. Maybe so. Thanks for the input!

The condition on that button is sweet thanks for sharing.

Great looking button, they don't come out any nicer than that. Sweet display keeper.

Nice pick, Darby. What did it ring up on the AT Pro?

Thanks. It actually rang up 81,82. Thought I had a coin! Most buttons tend to be in the 60, 65 range which,
unfortunately, so do shotgun shells!

Absolutely stunning! Would love to find one so beautiful!

Thanks relichunter. Honestly that one is the nicest looking button I've dug on that site, after we've pulled well over 200 buttons from that one site! Thanks again for the comments.

Man that cleaned up nice, honestly when it came out the dirt didn't look like much gilding was intact. Stunning dandy!

Yep Jon that was quite a surprise after cleaning to see that much gilt!. Didn't look like much gilt left when I first dug it.
