Recent florida rescue

This was found in north cenral florida this past month.
Just a super piece to hold and admire the work put in to it!
Its a little polished.

I miss point hunting. I hunted in Missouri for 20 years, walked many a farm field and had a friend teach me how to hunt the creeks, streams and rivers there and that became my preferred style, so many more unbroken points. I Moved back to Florida in 2001 and found out they changed the state law and now it's against the law to remove any artifact from any government land, city, county or state. I know no one that had private land with running water on it so I gave it up. I could not take the chance off having my collection confiscated...

Nice find! Pretty rare for Fla. Most stone was imported from futher north. Panhandle and Tallahassee has quite a lot, I just could never seem to find any! Thanks for the pics.

There's no coating just well polished.The other piece in the case is a broken gorget that was fashioned into some kind of pendent.

That's what I'm interested in, and why I ask if you own the piece. I would like you to find out if it was decorated (tallied) after breaking. A very high percentage of them were. In fact, my studies have shown that most decorated salvaged gorgets that were decorated, were done so after the breakage. I am trying to see the extent of the practice, it's somewhat significant to me.

On many of the examples, the decoration (incising) goes well into the broken area. If the edge has been completely revamped, then it's much harder to tell than broken edges that haven't been ground down. You will want to look at your pieces under magnification to see, it's not as easily identifiable on some as others.
