Recent golf course finds

News press pin, Dorothy Gray lipstick (1930's?), 1938 golf tag, pipe stem, unfired bullet and old fired bullet.

How can i tell the age and type of the fired bullet? I noticed it has 2 maybe 3 rings.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just hope you properly filled in all of your divots on the fairway. If I were lucky enough to land in the fairway, I surely wouldn't want to be playing my approach shot from a divot my ball would surely find

Only detect the Roughs. Fairways are too well maintained to collect much anyway. Have found some pennies sliced clean in half from the mowers!

How did you get permission to hunt on a golf course? Never would have thought of that one.

I work as a groundskeeper. Gonna start at 5:30 am tomorrow to see what's up by the club house. Still have to stay out of the way of club members.

It's good to be the groundskeeper. The golf course groundskeeper, not the cemetery groundskeeper.

I bet you can also tout the largest collection of nearly used balls, "hit only once".

You can make a few nice dollars on those too, and I bet you do

I would think there would be lots of jewelery at a golf course. Not bullets?

Finding a bullet on the course adds a whole new dimension to "nice shot".

Interesting finds on a gold course for sure. The pipe stem appears to be off a Kaywoodie pipe, as the maker mark of the cloverleaf/club is theirs. Here is some information about them if your interested.

Your more than welcome. If I had to guess a date I would say it's from the 1950's due to the stinger (the metal piece at the end of the pipe stem); however, you might be able to get a more accurate date by asking in a pipe forum with your photo, as Kaywoodie (and other pipe makers) use various styles of stingers through the years.

If you are somewhere down south, I would expect the fired bullet to be from the civil war, at least that is what it looks like to me. Post it in the civil war forum to find out what type it is.

It may be, but judging from the rings it has and the size, I would expect it to be from an old musket or rifle of some sort. By the 1920's, most bullets had casings and were much smaller in diameter. Therefore, I would expect it to be from sometime in the 1800's. Since it is not from the civil war, it could have been from an old homestead, fur trappers, or simply a guy with a rifle walking through the woods. It's a neat find!
